Rector Taking Part in Wish-A-Thon Friday
The Rector community will be taking part in the 15th annual Have A Heart Wish-A-Thon fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Friday, Feb. 15. This will be the second year a team from Rector has taken part in the event, with last year's efforts receiving a "wonderful response," according to volunteer Letecia Dooley.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is very important to the Dooley family. The family, consisting of parents Bill and Letecia and children Ariel and Evan, took a magical trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. in 2009. Ariel, who was 14 at the time of the trip, was chosen as a Wish Kid by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The amazing trip made a special impression on Ariel, who has battled spina bifida her entire life.
"It was the best," Ariel said of the trip. "We had so much fun!"
Those fortunate enough to know Ariel are familiar with her positive attitude and her brilliant, infectious smile. It came as little surprise when the teenager and her family decided they wanted to help other children enjoy the same wonderful experience the Dooley's were able to have.
"We would like to encourage everyone to help make a wish come true," Leticia said. "On average, it takes $5,000 to grant a wish. We'd like to raise at least $5,000 here in Rector."
The Dooleys and other volunteers will be located at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 90, near Two Frenz, and at Harps. Organizers wish to remind everyone the money raised in Rector will be used to help children in the region.
"Please come out and support the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses," Ariel said. "I know just how much it can mean to someone to have their wish granted."
