A group of 13 sixth grade students from Piggott Elementary School recently completed the Young Authors Program for 2013 at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Educational Center.

The students were recommended by their teachers, and participated in the four-week program after school on Wednesdays. Upon completion of the program each received a spiral-bound collection of their original stories.

Adam Long, HPMEC director, served as instructor for the program which ran from Jan. 23 to Feb. 13 at the local museum. "It's a pleasure to work with writers this age. I was impressed with their level of creativity," Long said of the experience. "They produced some really great pieces."

Long added that a group of PES fifth grade students will begin their four week Young Authors program today, Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the local museum.

HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site at 1021 West Cherry Street, Piggott, Ark. Tours are on the hour from 9 a.m. to3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
