Lady Greyhounds headed to state final
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds have earned a trip to the Class 2A State Basketball Finals at the Barton Coliseum in Little Rock next week, delighting hometown fans with a 78-64 victory over a very tough Spring Hill Lady Bears squad Saturday night in Marmaduke.
The Lady 'Hounds battled Spring Hill throughout, but Marmaduke seemed to hit their stride in the fourth quarter; just as Spring Hill appeared to wear down in the contest.
Sidnee Bopp continued to shine for the Lady Greyhounds, netting a game-high 22 points in the critical victory. Bopp also performed well defensively, pestering talented Spring Hill point guard Rachel Medina throughout the contest and coming away with several steals. A total of five Lady 'Hounds scored in double figures on the night with Cally Price netting 15, Alexus Jones scoring 12 and Jessica Lee and Jessica Boggs adding 11 points each. Whitley Boggs finished with seven points to round out the MHS scoring.
Spring Hill was led by 19 from Lauren Kidd and 17 by Medina.
Marmaduke will play Norphlet at 7 p.m. this evening, Thursday, March 7 in the championship game at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock. In other local action, EPC advanced to the state finals in the boys' bracket, defeating Junction City 76-70. Cedar Ridge ran away with the nightcap, topping Riverside 63-36 in unofficial results.
