Edith Mae Vawter
Edith Mae Vawter was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Cherryville, Kans. to John Floyd and Pauline Ketner and passed from this life Feb. 17, 2013, at the age of 88 years and six months. They moved to Battlecreek, Mich., before finally settling in Rector.
Edith attended Mary's Chapel and Greenway Schools. Edith began her teaching career at the age of 18 in the country school of Mary's Chapel and continued to teach until her retirement in California.
Edith married Leon Vawter on Sept. 11, 1943, and to this union four children were born: Kathy, Richard, Robert and Jared. After WWII, they made their home in Monticello, Ark., where Leon was head of the counseling department at Arkansas A&M College. Edith attended A&M College and received her BA in Elementary Education and the family moved to California in 1961.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda ad Wayne Turner of Rector and Mary and Ervin Cribbs Corcoran, Calif., and her brother, Frank Ketner of Lenoore, Calif.
A celebration of her life was held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Bethany Chapel Assembly of God in Oxnard, Calif.
