Cougars Drop Road Loss to Indians

Thursday, March 14, 2013

The Cougars fell to 0-2 on the young 2013 baseball season with a tough 3-2 loss to the hosting Pocahontas Redskins Thursday.

Sophomore Nick Hardin worked four solid innings as the starting pitcher, allowing two unearned runs on one hit. Mitchell Weber worked two innings in relief.

The two teams went into the seventh inning with a 2-2 tie. Pocahontas scored on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win.

Rector took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Kyle Britt, but the Redskins would tie the game again in their half of the inning.

"I thought we played well against a good team," RHS coach Nate Henderson said. "We scattered five hits against a good club. We had some things that hurt us. All three of their runs were unearned. It's still early and I think we'll be fine once we get some games under us and are able to make a few adjustments. So far, I've seen several things I like about our team."

Britt finished the day 1-2 with an RBI. Daniel White, Lawson Ford, Weber and Justin Herrera added a hit each for the Cougars.

Rector's game against Marmaduke scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled due to soggy conditions at both fields. The game will be made up at a later date. The Cougars are slated to host EPC beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday and Paragould beginning at 4 p.m. Friday. Rector is scheduled to visit Piggott on March 22.
