Vernon Curtis Self, 79, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born on January 20, 1934, in Kennett, Mo., and was the son of the late James Edgar and Verna Thelma (Hoover) Self.

Vernon was a Korean War Veteran serving from 1951 until 1954.

He was united in marriage to Loyce Elrod on Jan. 15, 1956, in Hernando, Miss.

Mr. Self is survived by his wife Loyce of the home; two daughters, Jackie Rider of Round Rock, Tex., and Denise Frohock of Benton, Mo. He leaves one granddaughter, Carly Moore and husband Damon, also of Round Rock, Tex.; four grandsons, Johnny and Daniel Faucet of Windfield, Ala., and Aaron and Nelson Frohock of Benton, Mo.; one great-grandson, Rayden Moore of Round Rock, Tex.; three brothers, Bradley Self and wife Level of Riverview, Mich., George Self and wife Glenda of Guntown, Miss. and Donald Self and wife Jerrolyn of Sikeston, Mo.; and sisters, Verna LaVell Neal and husband Freddy of Kennett, Mo. and Enola Jane Shepard and husband Melvin of Piggott, Ark.; one special sister-in-law, Joyce Gunn, also of Piggott, Ark. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in the Dunklin Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett, Mo., with Jerry Morgan officiating. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., will be in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
