The Cougars picked up a hard-fought victory over the visiting BIC Mustangs Monday, winning 7-5 in Rector.

Mitchell Weber earned the win on the mound for the Cougars, throwing all seven innings. Weber allowed four earned runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

"Mitchell threw a good game for us," RHS head coach Nate Henderson said. "He was tough out there. He didn't have his best stuff, but he constantly battled back and gave us a chance to win the game. He had a solid outing, a real good effort."

Timely hitting put Rector over the top. The Cougars were led by two hits each from Lawson Ford, Jake Scott and Daniel White. Scott and White each had an RBI in the victory, with Ford scoring two runs.

Marmaduke Win

The Cougars came away with a key win over rival Marmaduke this past Wednesday, besting the hosting Greyhounds 4-3 in eight innings.

White drew a walk to start the eighth inning for Rector. The speedy senior stole his way to third, and then took home plate on an errant throw to give Rector the advantage and the win.

"Good base running," Henderson said. "That's a senior leader stepping up for his team."

The contest was a back-and-forth battle. Rector knotted the game up at 3-3 in the top of the seventh on a two-run single by Josh Loveless.

"That was a big time hit by Josh," Henderson said. "It was a clutch hit from one of our veterans."

Loveless earned the win on the mound, working all eight innings. He finished with two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

"He threw a really good game for us--a really good game," Henderson said. "He looked good out there and I thought we did a nice job of backing him up defensively. We didn't make an error in the field and let Josh go to work out there. Lawson Ford had a nice game defensively. He made about six plays out there that could've have gone the other way easily. A good all-around effort."

Ford, Weber and Garrett Buck each had two hits for the Cougars.

Rector is scheduled to host Corning beginning at 4:30 p.m. April 22.
