Lady Cougars Pound Lady "Hounds at Home
The Lady Cougars were impressive on the diamond Monday, hosting the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds. Rector rolled to a 14-0 victory in the meeting.
The Lady Cougars started strong, plating five runs in the first frame. Anna Blackshare got things going with a double. Blackshare moved to third on a ground out by Kendal Gunn. Lindsey Ford drew a walk. Tarryn Tracy hit a single to score Blackshare and move Ford to third. A bunt from Johnna Lopez followed, bringing home Ford and putting runners on first and second. A Brittany Fair single loaded the bases. Kelly Fowler brought home two runs with a well-timed double, leaving runners at second and third and moving Rector ahead 4-0. Fowler would later take home on a passed ball.
Rector added a run in the second inning to move ahead 6-0. Fair brought Lopez home as the duo hit back-to-back doubles in the frame.
Rector all but shut the door in the third, moving ahead 11-0. Two hit batters and a single from Blackshare loaded the bases early in the frame. Ford doubled in two runs as the fourth batter of the inning. An RBI single by Tracy followed. Lopeze singled to bring in two runs to cap the scoring run.
Rector wound down the outburst of offense in the bottom of the fourth, plating three more runs. Blackshare started with a triple and then scored on a single by Gunn. A double by Lopez scored Gunn. Lopez came home later on a single by Fowler.
Lopez and Blackshare finished the day 4-4 at the plate. Lopez hit three doubles and a single, driving in three runs. Blackshare hit a triple, a double and two singles. Also hitting for Rector were Fowler, 3-4 with two RBIs; Tracy, 2-3 with two RBIs; Ford, 2-3 with two RBIs; Fair, 2-3 with an RBI and Gunn, Lynch and Essman with one hit each.
Fowler notched the win in the circle, allowing seven hits while ringing up four and walking two.
Rector was in action against 2A-3 conference foe Buffalo Island Central at Monette April 10. The road trip was a tough one for Rector, who fell to the hosting Lady Mustangs, 5-2.
BIC plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control early. Rector struggled against solid pitching and windy conditions early, managing just one hit--a single off the bat of Gunn in the first frame--during the initial three innings.
The Lady Cougars scored their first run in the top of the fourth. Ford stretched a single into a double with a little help from the BIC outfield. Tracy brought Ford home with a double into the gap, bringing Rector within a run, 2-1.
Rector would briefly tie the game in the top of the fifth. A one out sacrifice bunt by Courtney Shepard moved Lynch to second base. From there, Lynch stole third and was able to come home on a throwing error. The score was knotted up at 2-2.
BIC scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, setting the final in place.
Tracy led Rector with an RBI double. Gunn, Ford, Lopez, Essman and Lenae Haley had a single each for the Lady Cougars.
Fowler took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
