A group of talented Rector shooters took second place in the Citizens Bank Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program Tournament's junior division held Saturday, April 6 at Batesville.

The Rector junior team was comprised of Chance Scott, Hunter Ellis, Garret Groves, Alex Smith and Blake Boyd. Rector hit 103 out of a possible 125 clay skeet, finishing just one point behind junior winner Salem and three points ahead of third place Batesville. There were 50 teams which took part in the event.

The Rector squad received a $200 check for their efforts, with the funds being used to purchase additional targets and shells for the program. The award was presented to the squad by Citizens Bank senior vice-president and COO Lloyd Davis.

"They did a great job," Rector coach Joseph Scott said of his team. "The boys performed well at the shoot, and they did a good job representing the school and the community when they were there."

The event at Batesville was the squad's first shoot of the season.

"That was a good showing, especially for the first shoot," coach Scott said. "These boys love this sport and work really hard at it. They take it very seriously and are extremely responsible at all time, which is one of the main purposes of the sport."

Rector's individual scores for the Batesville event were: Chance Scott, 24 out of a possible 25; Hunter Ellis, 22; Blake Boyd, 20; Garrett Groves, 19, and Alex Smith, 18.

Other team members who did not participate in the shoot include Case Watson, Sam Simmons, Cutter Guite and Tabor Trail.

The team is set to return to Batesville for a shooting event on April 20.

The team would like to thank its sponsors for their assistance in continuing to build the Rector shooting sports program. Sponsors include Glen Sain, Wilson Outdoors, Heartland Auto and ATV and Liberty Hill Outfitters.

The team is accepting $10 donations for a Remington 870 Super Mag 12 gauge shotgun to be given away at a later date. The shotgun is currently on display at Wilson Outdoors in Rector.
