Aftershock 2013 is All the Rave!
Rector A.C.E. Youth Leadership hosted another successful After Prom party spanning the late night and early morning hours of April 12 and April 13, respectively, at the Rector Community Center. This year's theme was "AfterShock 2013 is All the Rave!" A total of 74 students were in attendance this year.
Each student present was given an AfterShock t-shirt and a door prize during the night. Black lights were used for them to have a "rave" party. Shirts in four different neon colors were available to the students, and they were given glow necklaces and bracelets to wear, as well. Group games also were played. The ever-popular "Frozen T-shirt Contest" returned, wherein a team of students devise various ways to free a t-shirt from a block of ice in order for one representative of each team to wear said shirt. A lot of fun and laughter was shared throughout the night by the students and the adult volunteers.
This year's senior ACE Leadership committee members chose to take the amount of money left after expenses and divide it among the remaining seniors at the end of the night. This resulted in 22 RHS seniors receiving a check in the amount of $323 each at the conclusion of the AfterProm party. Seniors receiving money were Charles Garron, D. J. Rose, Seth Morris, Hayden McCluskey, Rylan Classen, Emily Sanders, Matt Stone, Daniel White, Jesse Studdard, Tyler Carter, Robert Stokes, Kelly Fowler, Dillon Shelton, Tarryn Tracy, Tyler Watson, Brandon Akin, Jake Scott, Sydney Simmons, Mitchell Weber, Kaitlyn Essman, Justin Herrera and Ryan Jackson.
These seniors, as well as organizers Carla Essman and Jamie Dowdy, wish to express their gratitude to the following cash donors who made these checks possible: Ginger and Gregg Sain; Hamilton Farms; Teresa Sain; Bryan Blackshare, DDS; Betty and Larry Essman; Sandra and Stephen DeMent; Leland Blackshare; Danny and Jeannie Essman; Stephen Duncan, D.C., P.A.; Garner Studio; Glen Sain Motor Sales; Delta Cotton Coop, Inc.; Jody and Heather Simmons; Above & Beyond/Tracy Horton; Jimmy D. "Jamie and I are so grateful to all of our chaperones," Carla Essman said. "We had some wonderful volunteers to help pull this night off, and we sincerely appreciate everyone! Joining Jamie and I this year were Jill Wynn, Amber Bucy, Jodi Horton and Kathy Fowler. Leah and Kirk Ford came in at breakfast time and helped with breakfast and clean-up. This type of event could not be possible without our volunteers. Blake McCarroll was our DJ this year, with set up and assistance by Cole Thomas. These young men also helped us chaperone and Blake even jump-started a student's vehicle for us! You never know what kind of assistance we will need! Everyone pulls together to make this as great a night as possible for our students!
"We are very appreciative to all of the many businesses that sold candy bars for us, and especially to Mrs. Michelle Hartsfield, Mrs. Renae Shavalia and Mrs. Heidi Henderson, who had students lined up so many times to purchase candy bars. We appreciate the school allowing us to do this for our students!"
Essman said the event is a fun, safe way for Rector students to celebrate.
"We have awesome students at RHS and they deserve our very best. I can honestly say that Rector provides this to them! Many Thanks for another awesome AfterProm party!"
