Update on 2A-3 district tournaments at Rector

Friday, April 26, 2013

Friday's rains have impacted the 2A-3 baseball and softball district tournaments at Rector.

Softball contests originally scheduled for Friday now have been pushed back to Monday.

The hosting Lady Cougars, the third seed in the tourney, will face sixth seed McCrory at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Fourth seed Riverside awaits Marmaduke at 5 p.m. Monday.

The semifinals now will be played Tuesday. Marked Tree, the second seed, will play the winner of the Rector and McCrory quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Top seed Buffalo Island Central will face the winner of the Riverside and Marmaduke quarterfinal at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The tournament final will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Rector.

With a quarterfinal victory, the Lady Cougars will automatically qualify for the regional tournament set to begin Friday, May 3 at Tuckerman.

On the boys' side, tourney officials hoped to emerge through Friday's rains with, at best, a delayed start for the day.

The hosting Cougars, the sixth seed, fell to rival Marmaduke, the seventh seed, 5-0 on Thursday. The loss brought the Cougars' 2013 campaign to a close. In other Thursday action, BIC advanced past Cross County.

Friday's games, set to begin at 4 p.m., were in doubt as rain fell throughout the early part of the day. BIC was set to face East Poinsett County, the fourth seed, at 4 p.m. in quarterfinal action, but this contest is now in doubt. The second quarterfinal, slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, will feature third seed Riverside and Marmaduke.

The semifinals are slated to begin Saturday. Second seeded Marked Tree will face the winner of the 6:30 p.m. Friday contest at noon Saturday. Top seed McCrory awaits the winner of the Friday's 4 p.m. semifinal at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The tourney final is set to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday.
