Lady Mohawks Fall, Baseball Tribe Advances in Regionals

Monday, May 6, 2013
Both Mohawk ball squads are scheduled to play first round games at noon today, Monday, May 6, at the regional tournament at Harrison.

The Lady Mohawks fell to Melbourne 8-0 in their first round regional tournament game Monday at Harrison. Meanwhile, the baseball Mohawks knocked off Yellville 6-4 to advance to the second round--and earn themselves a spot in the state tourney.

The remaining three games also went to members of the 3A-3, setting up today's regional semi-finals among four teams very familiar with each other.

The Harrisburg Hornets beat Melbourne 7-3, and took on the Tribe at noon. Harrisburg got the better of the Mohawks, notching a 9-8 win.

In the lower half of the bracket, the Rivercrest Colts had two pitchers combine for a no-hitter, as they beat Bergman 10-0 and the Manila Lions got a no-hitter from Brady Jones as they beat Flippin 6-1.

In the girls bracket the Lady Colts advanced with a no-hitter by Micalah Beall, while Harrisburg beat Flippin and Mt View beat Corning 7-6 in nine innings.

The state tournament gets underway Thursday at Searcy and is hosted by Harding Academy.

The Mohawks will play at either 5 p.m. or 7:30 based on where they finish in the third-fourth place game at Harrison. Full details will be posted Wednesday.
