Mohawks Blanked by Potent Beavers at State Tourney

Friday, May 10, 2013
The Piggott Mohawks walk off the field for the final time for 2013 following Thursday afternoon's loss to Glen Rose in the state tourney at Searcy.

The Piggott Mohawk's season ended Thursday afternoon in the first round of the 3A state baseball tournament at Searcy. The Tribe, coming out of Region 3 as the fourth seed, fell to the talented Beavers of Glen Rose High School, regional champs from Region 2, by a final of 10-0.

Cole Marlow had a strong outing on the mound, but a half dozen Mohawk errors gave the Beavers the edge. Logan Murray came on late in relief, but had control issues and gave up two runs on wild pitches.

The Mohawks also hit the ball well at times, as they faced Glen Rose's Collin Hunter, but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities.

The complete game report, and season wrap-up, may be found in the May 15 print and online editions of the Clay County Times-Democrat
