Hospital Tax Issue Passes by Wide Margin

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Residents of the city of Piggott approved the extension of a sales tax issue to benefit the emergency department at Piggott Community Hospital Tuesday, May 14.

The local sales tax was first approved by voters in 2010, and was set to expire later this year. Recently hospital administrators asked for an extension of the tax for an additional 60 months, and the matter was set for a special election.

Tuesday the election was held, and when the Clay County Clerk's office had tabulated the results the measure passed on a vote of 335 to 55.

The ballots included 124 early ballots and 12 absentee.
