RHS Athletic Awards Assembly Held

Seniors Kelly Fowler and Mitchell Weber were named the Athletes of the Year, the top honor, at the RHS Athletic Banquet

Rector High School's top student athletes were recognized Tuesday, May 7, at the school's annual athletic banquet, held at the RHS gymnasium.

Students, friends and family members gathered to enjoy a delicious barbecue meal, prepared by RES principal and baseball coach Nate Henderson, and show their support for the Cougars.

The top awards of the night went to Mitchell Weber and Kelly Fowler, named as the male and female Athletes of the Year. Both seniors were multi-sport standouts during their time at RHS. Weber was a star athlete in basketball, where he was regularly considered among the top players in the state, and baseball, earning numerous honors in both sports. Fowler excelled as a member of the Lady Cougar softball team, where she earned her second straight All-State selection as a pitcher, and as a former member of the basketball squad.

Awards presented on the night included:

Baseball -- Offensive Player of the Year, Garrett Buck; Pitcher of the Year, Josh Loveless; Defensive Player of the Year, Daniel White; MVP, Mitchell Weber; Most Improved, Justin Herrera; Newcomer of the Year, Garrett Buck and Lawson Ford; Mr. Hustle, Justin Herrera and Honorable Mention All-Conference, Mitchell Weber.

Softball --Silver Slugger, Anna Blackshare; Gold Glove. Kendal Gunn; Clutch Play of the Year, Johnna Lopez; Teammate of the Year, Lindsey Ford; Most Improved, Tarryn Tracy; Rookie of the Year, Colby Lynch; Baserunner of the Year, Tori Hill; All-Conference, Tarryn Tracy, Lindsey Ford, Kendal Gunn, Anna Blackshare, Kelly Fowler and Johnna Lopez and All-State, Anna Blackshare and Kelly Fowler.

Junior high football -- Offensive Player of the Year, Lawson Ford; Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett Buck; Lineman of the Year, Huston Highfill; Most Improved, Sam Westbrook; Weight Room Award, Ty Haney; Comeback Player of the Year, Damian Johnston; Clutch Play of the Year, Garrett Buck; Teammate of the Year, Jagger Ellis and All-Conference, Lawson Ford, Garrett Buck, Danny Hager and Huston Highfill.

Junior girls basketball -- Most Improved, Dominique Coln; Most Steals, Tori Hill; Best Field Goal Percentage, Colby Lynch; Best Defense, Sophi Adams; Free Throw Percentage, Tori Hill; Best Offense, Tori Hill; Hustle Award, Sophi Adams; Most Assists, Matison Dean; Most Three-Pointers, Tori Hill; Lady Cougar Award, Jami Hatfield; Most Rebounds, Colby Lynch and All-Conference, Tori Hill and Colby Lynch.

Golf -- District Medalist and State Tournament Qualifier, Kade Scott.

Cheerleading -- Best Tumbling, Jordan Crane; Best Dancing, Katie Bowers; Best Jumps, Amy DeMent; Best Motion, Sarah Willis; Best Attitude, Sydney Simmons; Most Spirited, Lindsey Shelton; Exceptional Leadership, Kaylee Hartsfield; Most Improved, Avery Bucy and Best All-Around, Madison Cate.

The following RHS Sports Hall of Fame scholarships were announced: Hall of Fame $1,000, Kelly Fowler; Hall of Fame $1,000, Daniel White; Alan K. Pruett Memorial $1,000, Mitchell Weber; Robertson Family Memorial $500, Kaitlyn Essman and Hall of Fame Book $200, Dillon Shelton and Tarryn Tracy.

All Rector athletes were recognized during the banquet, with the coaches and the crowd showing their appreciation for the hard work and effort each Cougar dedicates to the various programs.
