We are an impatient people.

We want everything right now; no waiting.

We want new glasses in an hour and same day dentures.

Pregnancy tests tell women instantly that they are or aren't expecting.

There are tests that tell the sex of the unborn. No more waiting until delivery.

Newscasters predict voter outcomes before the polls close.

We have one hour or less photo developing or else we do it ourselves.

Pets are rushed outdoors to do their business; then back in again; no loitering.

We are in a rush for everything. We don't have time to complete one task before interruption. Phone calls are interruped by someone else beeping on the line

We multitask.

We do two or three things at once..

We have instant winners. Just scratch off and see what you get.

File income tax electronically and have your refund sent to the bank.

Eat chocolate. Lose 10 pounds in a week.

Why wait?

We have debit cards, Internet banking, and phone redial..

We have instant puddings, frozen biscuits (no defrosting, just bake) instant oats, instant hot chocolate, instant tea and instant coffee.

The discovery of instant coffee was followed by dehydrated package soups, noodles, mashed potatoes, and instant whipped topping.

Microwaves and ready meals replaced cooking with push button speed.

This week my daughter gave a pouch of Uncle Ben's Ready Rice to me. It cooks in 90 seconds in the microwave. No need to wait 20 minutes while rice cooks on the stovetop. If you prefer preparing the Ready Rice in a skillet, it takes only seconds to heat the rice.

We have television, video, news, music, books and information on demand. We can tune in the weather forecast 24/7.

Dishwashers have replaced standing at the sink doing dishes.

We are able to buy and sell stocks with the touch of a button.

Yes, we are an instant society.

But we haven't figured out a way to quickly get a real operator when we need help contacting our service representatives. "Please punch one, two, three, four, five or six. Our next available operator will be with you."

It's still hurry up and wait.
