Jett Recipient of Postmaster of the Year Award
Piggott Postmaster Stephanie Jett was honored by her peers this past weekend, as recipient of the 2013 Postmaster of the Year Award from the Arkansas Branch of the National League of Postmasters. Jett, who has served as a postmaster since Nov. 11, 2005 accepted the honor at the league's annual meeting at Conway.
"It's a great honor to have been chosen," Jett said of the recognition. "There are 306 members in our state branch of the League of Postmasters, and this was our 100th state convention, so it was a special time to be recognized."
Prior to being named to the local post Jett served as postmaster at both Pollard and St. Francis. She is the current state president of the League of Postmasters and is a candidate for the position of National Secretary/Treasurer. She has also served as executive vice-president and vice-president of the state organization; serves as a chair on the state convention committee and is a member of the national organization's membership committee.
As the state winner from Arkansas she will also be in contention for national honors at the league's annual gathering in July. "I will be representing Arkansas in the National Postmaster of the Year competition at our national convention in San Diego, Calif.," she noted.
To be eligible for the recognition Stephanie was nominated during the search process. The criteria calls for someone, "who has done the most, or made the most significant contributions to the League while maintaining an excellent level of performance in their post office and personal career." The search also specified nominees be, "an individual whose integrity is above reproach, who you would be proud of" in representing the Arkansas branch on a national scale.
"I had to submit an application with biographical and work information," Jett explained. "All of the nominees were reviewed by a panel of previous winners, and the top four finalists forwarded to last year's winner for final vote tally--they're the only one who knows who the winner is in advance."
Jett is a local native and PHS grad, and is the daughter of Frank and Donna Staples of Piggott. She and her husband, Robert, live in Piggott with their four children. She is also an active member of the First Baptist Church and serves on the board of directors of the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce.
She also has the distinction of being the first woman named as Piggott Postmaster.
