Rector Hosting Little League District

The Rector eight and under machine pitch team finished third at the recent Piggott Tournament. Rector topped Corning, 10-5, in the first round, but fell to eventual champ Dexter in the second round, 16-2. Rector posted 13-3 and 18-9 wins over Piggott and Corning, respectively, to get back in the hunt, but fell once more to Dexter, 14-4. Team members shown here are, from left: Front--K.K. The top area Little League baseball teams will come to Rector this weekend, as the Jeremy McDaniel Memorial Sports Complex plays host to the Little League District Tournament. Teams from Rector, Piggott, Corning, Stone County, Walnut Ridge, Jackson County, Bald Knob and St. Francis are among those who will be participating in four different age groups beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday.

Piggott and Bald Knob will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in the eight and under bracket with the winner advancing to meet Corning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rector is set to face Walnut Ridge at 8 p.m. Friday night.

In the 10 and under division, Corning will play Bald Knob at 6 pm. Friday with the winner advancing to play Rector at noon Saturday. Piggott will face Walnut Ridge at 10 a.m. Saturday.

In 12 and under play, Corning will face Stone County at 6 p.m. Friday with the winner meeting Piggott at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rector will square off with Walnut Ridge at 8 p.m. Friday.

Brackets in the 14 and under division were not finalized as the Times-Democrat went to press Tuesday.

Admission to the tournament is $3 per car. All entrances to the park will be blocked off with the exception of the main entrance off of Highway 49. District t-shirts are available for $15. Volunteers also will be selling tickets to win a $500 Wal-Mart gift card donated through Kennett Wal-Mart as part of a $1,000 donation to the park.
