The Piggott Radio Control Modelers Club, #3837 hosted their 16th annual spring Fun Fly Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2. Heavy rains Friday night forced the cancellation of Saturday's activities, as by 10 a.m. the flying field was submerged.

But, thanks to the Piggott Airport Commission, members of the local club were allowed to move the Sunday activities to the Piggott Airport. "They've allowed us to use the airport in the past for other airshows because of wet conditions at our flying field," noted club member Myron Low. "The new airport facilities are very nice, and we thank the commission for allowing us to use it."

Sunday's effort proved to be a success, with a good number of both pilots and spectators on hand. Those taking part included pilots from Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee and Arkansas.

"Our attendance was as large, or larger than any of our usual Sunday shows," Low noted. "The pilots really wanted to put on a good show and the spectators showed their appreciation."

Low also noted the fact the runway was surrounded by flood waters by the time the event was held, meant any emergency landings would have to be in water. "But, luckily no one had to make any emergency landings," he added.

The club also wrapped up their annual TV raffle Sunday afternoon, choosing Bobbi Johnson of Piggott as the winner of the new 42-inch HD TV. A variety of other RC items were also raffled, and went home with both pilots and spectators alike.

The event was co-sponsored by Tower Hobbies, Micro Fasteners, Ohio Model Products, Trimcraft Aviation, Aeroworks, Smart Fly, RTL Fasteners, Taildragger RC, Twisted Hobbies, SIG Manufacturing, TRU Turn, REDZ Aviation, Aerobez, Azteck Aero Models, Lyles Small Engine Repair of Paragould, Castle Creation, Electric Combat of Piggott, Rickman's Ministries of Paragould and Flying Z Hobbies of Kentucky.

Organizers also offered their thanks to the city of Piggott for supporting their hobby, and affording the general public the chance to watch RC airshows such as this year's spring fun fly.
