Bobby Richardson

Have you ever been truly hungry--not knowing where your family's next meal is coming from? Unfortunately, in these hard economic times more and more families are forced into making difficult decisions. Luckily for Piggott area residents, the Helping Hands Food Pantry is working to try to help alleviate for some area residents some of the stress involved in putting food on the table.

A special musical program will be held to benefit the local food pantry, beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at the First United Methodist Church of Piggott. Guest performer for the fundraiser will be Bobby Richardson of Nashville.

Richardson, who has called Nashville home since 2005, studies under the direction of Dr. Keith Moore of Belmont University. He has performed in several productions of the world's most well-known symphonic works, as well as some of the best-loved operas. Included in these performances are Handel's Messiah, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, The Magic Flute and Carmen.

Richardson regularly appears with the Nashville Symphony, the Nashville Opera and has also performed with the North Arkansas Symphony and Opera in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs. He has appeared on recordings with the Grammy Award winning Nashville Symphony, and has worked with some of the most sought-after conductors in the world.

Also on the program will be a performance by the First United Methodist Choir, which is made up of dedicated volunteers from both Wright's Chapel United Methodist and First United Methodist Church. A small group from Wright's Chapel will also be singing. Organizers note there will be music for everyone, from opera to spirituals, on the program.

Kenneth Renshaw is the choir director and Sandra Routszong is the accompanist. Renshaw will also be playing a piano solo and he and Routszong will be playing piano and organ duets. Renshaw is a teacher, piano tuner and astronomer while Routszong is retired after teaching music in the Piggott School District for 40 years.

The church families, along with Rev. Andy Newbill, encourage everyone to come out and enjoy an afternoon of great music and support a very worthwhile cause. The church is located at the corner of North Third and West Cherry Streets in Piggott.
