Piggott All Stars Fall In State Championship Round
The Piggott nine and 10 year old All-Star baseball team finished second in the state to Arkadelphia Wednesday night,(July 17), after advancing to the championship round at Pine Bluff.
The team began their quest for the state championship last Friday, as they posted a "nip and tuck" 15-14 victory over Pine Bluff Western. Saturday afternoon they were back in action, but fell to a stout Arkadelphia team by a final of 12-3 in the double-elimination bracket.
Monday afternoon they returned to the field, and posted an impressive 12-7 win over Walnut Ridge.
Then, Tuesday evening the squad ground out a 6-5 victory over White Hall to advance.
They again faced Arkadelphia Wednesday evening, needing to take a double-header to win the title. And, despite giving it their all they dropped the contest by a final of 12-0.
Team members include Logan Ralph, Michael Parker, John Ford Hendrix, Holden Tarno, Austin Fair, Nate Lemmons, Brent Gossett, Cameron Collier, Brandon Seal, Brandon Palmer and Hayden Emerson. The team is coached by Shawn Parker, Chuck Emerson, Dave Hendrix, Chris Tarno and Billy Joe Seal.
The coaches and team also offered their thanks to everyone who contributed toward their expenses for the trip, noting it would not have been possible without them.
Complete details on the team's run to the title game will be published in the July 24 print edition of the Clay County Times-Democrat.
