Geneva Dale Gray
Geneva Dale Gray, 94, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark.
She was born on January 27, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Johnny Earl and Pearl (Parrish) Graddy.
She was united in marriage to Henry Hitt and he preceded her in death in 1956. On May 26, 1958, she was united in marriage to Leland Gray, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tommy Smith; grandson, Cody Olds; stepson, Vernie Mack Gray; brothers, Troy Graddy, Gerald Graddy, Hulen Graddy, Bobby Joe Graddy; and sister, Imogene Gray.
During World War II Geneva was employed at a factory riveting airplane wings. These women inspired the campaign of "Rosie the Riveter" which was a cultural icon during World War II.
She is survived by her children, Terry Smith of Paragould, Ark., Jo Ann Olds and husband Terry of St. Francis, Ark.; stepdaughter, Polly Ozbun of Harlinger, Tex.; grandchildren: Timmy Smith (Freda), Tony Smith (Sherri), Tory Shirley (Jeremy), Jennifer Olds, Tara O'Neal Mitchell, step-grandchildren: Mona Gray Murray (Ray), Angie Sutherland, Tammy Ozbun, Tyler Ozbun, Tracy Ozbun and Steve Ozbun; 13 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brothers, Jimmie Graddy of Piggott, Ark., J.E. Graddy of Piggott, Ark. and Alion Graddy of Fredricktown, Mo.; sisters, Juanita Williams of Piggott, Ark., and Earlene Williams of Warrenton, Mo. and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Jeremy Pierce officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Graddy, Sean Graddy, Sam Williams, Sr., Sam Williams, Jr., Travis Williams and Tony Smith. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
