Junior Tennis League Holds Tourney
The Piggott Summer Tennis League junior division girls, which are in the eighth grade or lower, took part in a summer league for two weeks at the municipal courts. PHS coach Paul Seegraves holds the league each summer, along with clinics and tournaments, as he works to groom the next generation of Mohawk tennis stars.
Throughout the two weeks a total of 12 young ladies took part in the league, as division winners and bracket placement was determined. During league play Emilee Seegraves won the red division while Macey Williams was tops in the black division. Then, on Thursday July 18 the final tournament was held.
In the first round Emily Conley beat Destiny Hall by default, and Callie Henson downed Ava Baggett 6-2 while Shi Higdon beat Brooke Shipley 6-1.
In the second round Emilee Seegraves defeated Emily Conley 6-0, Macey Williams beat Destini Chase 6-4, Haley Zacek defeated Callie Henson 6-1 and Brooke Roberts downed Shi Higdon 6-1.
In semi-final action it was Seegraves over Williams 6-0 while Zacek got by Roberts 6-2.
And in the finals, Seegraves took her third straight summer league tournament title by defeating Zacek 6-0.
In the consolation tournament, Baggett downed Hall by default in the first round, Conley defeated Shipley 6-1 and Higdon defeated Henson 7-6.
In the semi-finals it was Chase over Baggett 6-0 while Higdon beat Conley 6-2.
And the consolation final went to Chase, with a 6-4 win over Higdon.
