Longtime Local Businessman, Bobby Shanklin, Dies at 69
Piggott businessman Robert Wade "Bobby" Shanklin died Sunday, July 21, 2013 following a lengthy illness. He was 69 years old.
Shanklin was a native of West Tennessee and came to Piggott as a sophomore in high school. He was a graduate of Piggott High School, where he met his future wife, the former Nancy James. The couple was married May 19, 1963, and recently marked their 50th anniversary. They had a daughter, Allison, who later blessed them with a son-in-law and two grandsons.
Shanklin worked at Piggott Tractor and Equipment for over four decades and remained with the company as manager when it was acquired by Legacy Equipment. He worked at the local John Deere dealership just short of 50 years, remaining on the job as long as his failing health would allow.
Late in life he also became deeply involved in raising money for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis after his grandson was diagnosed with the disease.
