Thomas Henry Smart
Thomas Henry Smart of Pollard, Ark. died August 9, 2013 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
He was born October 15, 1944 in Piggott, Ark., and was the son of Charles Henry and Mary Jane (Thomas) Smart. He was united in marriage to Peggy Louise Smith on June 1, 1968.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Thomas Butler Smart.
He is survived by his wife Peggy; three children: Thomas Wade (Leah Wheeler), John Daniel and Katherine Louise; three granddaughters, Hannah Grace, Morgan Dawn and Rebecca Charmayne; one sister, Pamela Mann (Michael); two nephews, Jeffrey Scott and David Charles; four great nephews Wyatt, Carter, Ridge and Holden; five cousins Cathy Smart Williams, Carol Smart Valentino, Hannah Jane Schmidt Featherston, Johnny Wade Schmidt and William Smart.
He was employed by the NRCS as Soil Conservationist for 30 years. Tommy loved the family farm. which was recently recognized as a Century Farm. As a younger man he spent many hours training his horses for barrel racing and calf roping. During his college years, Tommy had the honor of being both the ASU Indian Brave and Chief,
riding his horse around the track bareback after each ASU touchdown.
He was a quiet man, not one to brag and did not want attention drawn to himself. He allowed his work ethic in all areas to speak for his deeds. Tommy will be missed by many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held August 11, 2013 at Hoggard and Son's Chapel in Piggott with Rev. Trent Grimes officiating. Pallbearers were Sean Martin, Chuck Minton, Ray Sufczynski, Marty Conley, Brandon Emmons and Blaine Howell. Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway, Ark.
Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Clay County Fair Rodeo Fund at Piggott State Bank.
