Mohawk Fall Sports Schedule Underway
The fall sports season officially gets underway this week for the Piggott Mohawks, with the volleyball team in action at home as they take part in a five team jamboree at PHS. Monday the Mohawk tennis teams will begin their regular season with a set against non-conference Riverside at Jonesboro.
The jamboree is set to get underway at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the PHS gym, and will include Paragould, Harrisburg, Westside and Jonesboro. The public is invited to come out and see some of the top teams in the region as they prepare for regular season play.
The annual visit to PHS by the Lady Rams will also mark the return of Melissa Williams, who left as head coach at Piggott following last season to accept a teaching position at Paragould. Williams is also serving as an assistant volleyball coach under another former Lady Mohawk, Angie Donner, with the Lady Rams.
The junior "A" and senior "A" and "B" squads will also be in action Tuesday, Aug. 27 as the volleyball squad will travel to Jonesboro to take on the Lady Warriors at Westside. They'll be back in action against another non-conference team from Craighead County on Thursday, Aug. 29 as they host the Nettleton Lady Warriors with the junior "A" and "B" squads in action along with the senior "B" team. Both sets are scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m.
Monday afternoon the Mohawk tennis teams will kick-off their regular season with a set against the Riverside Rebels at Jonesboro. They'll be back in Jonesboro on Thursday, Aug. 29 as well as they take on Crowley's Ridge Academy. The tennis squads will then remain idle through Labor Day, and will be back on the court Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Pocahontas for a set with the non-conference Redskins.
Meanwhile, the Lady Mohawk volleyball team will begin their conference schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 3, as they visit Ridgefield Christian with all teams in action. They will begin the home conference schedule on Thursday, Sept. 5, with a senior "A" set with Cedar Ridge.
Friday, Sept. 6, marks the start of football season for the Tribe, as the senior team will be on the road at Yellville-Summit. The following week, Thursday, Sept. 12, the junior squad will begin their season on the road, as they visit Westside for their only non-conference game of the season.
