County Fair to Kickoff with 5-K Event

Thursday, September 5, 2013

Entries are now being accepted for the First Annual 5-Klay Run 4 Fun, being held in conjunction with this year's Clay County Fair. The run, or walk for those who choose, will be held beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and will start at the front gate of the fairgrounds in Piggott.

"If you or someone you know is a runner or walker who enjoys competing, or if you have never competed in a 5-K, but have always wanted to, here is the chance," noted local organizer Sean Martin. "The event is being hosted by the Clay County Fair Association with the help of Shannon Box formerly of Piggott, and his wife Becky, of Batesville."

"Shannon and his wife both compete competitively all over the state and they have graciously accepted the challenge of helping to kick off our first ever 5-K," Martin added. "We are excited about the opportunity and hope everyone will join us on race day."

Those interested in participating may visit the official Clay County Fair website at

"Those who are interested are able to print a registration form on the website," Martin added. "They can also check out our course map and will have the chance to start training on the exact course they'll be running that day."

Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place overall in both the male and female divisions. Medals will also be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group.

"A big thank-you also goes out to Jim Stearns, of Stearns Race Timing in Jonesboro, for listing our event on his page," Martin noted. "Be sure to check out his page for all the local 5-K events."

All proceeds from the event benefit the Clay County Fair, and its continued efforts to bring the citizens of Clay County new events each year and to improve on existing ones.
