Golf Teams in Action
The Mohawk golf team took part in two matches in the past two weeks, as they took on Corning and Rector and later Manila and Rivercrest in tri-matches. The Tribe had low medalist at both matches, as Ashlee Vaughn and Noah May continue to have strong rounds for Coach Alan Rabjohn's squad.
The Mohawk's boys team fell to Corning by four strokes in their match Aug. 27, losing a 141-137 decision. May was low medalist for the boys with a 44, while Reese Gurley carded a 47 and Jordan Blascoe shot a 50. The Tribe also got a 55 from Payton Mann. For the Cougars, Alex Scott had a 51 and Lawson Ford shot a 52, but the Rector squad did not compete for team honors.
The Bobcats took the match behind Seth Robinson's 45, while Chase Wilson and Jesse Williams both shot rounds of 46 to help insure the win. Rounding out the Corning effort was Drew Calhoun with a 61.
In girl's action, Lady Mohawk Ashlee Vaughn, the only girl on the squad this year, carded a 49 to take low medalist by four strokes over her closest competitor. But, Corning took the team honors with three players carding 53's, including Katie Woodard, Natalie Price and Allison Russom.
On Thursday, Sept. 5 the Mohawks took part in a tri-match with the Manila Lions and the Rivercrest Colts, brining home low medalist honors for both the boy's and the girl's squads. The boy's team also took the match, as they shot a 142.
Noah May was once again low-medalist for the boys as he shot a 44, while Reese Gurley's 47 and Austin Murray's 51 wrapped up the win. Also shooting rounds for the Tribe were Jordan Blascoe with a 51, Payton Mann with a 57, Mason Rahn with a 59 and Garrett Cook with a 66.
Manila's boy's team took second with a 143, with Scott Eubanks and Alex Richard shooting rounds of 46 along with Justin Bratton's 51. Rounding out the Lion's effort was Caleb Reinhart's 54.
The Colts took third place with a combined score of 160, with Preston Nichols shooting a 53, Drake Day carded a 54 and Joe Harrison shot a 55. Rounding out their scores it was Layken Fox with a 53, Bryce Nelson with a 59, Nick Moore with a 61 and Logan Jones with a 71.
Vaughn took low medalist among the girl's entries with a 51, while Taylor Teague of Manila and Shannon Forister of Rivercrest both shot rounds of 58 and Taylor Adams of the Lady Lions and Madison Goble of the Lady Colts both shot 64's.
