Rector School Board Honors Lindsey
The Rector School Board bid farewell to one of its members during Monday night's regular meeting at the administration building on the high school campus. Michael Lindsey was recognized for six years of membership on the board, having opted not to seek reelection for another term.
"I'm proud to have been a part of the school board," Lindsey said. "Our school means a great deal to the community and I'm happy to have given back in some way. I learned many things from my time here and have a greater appreciation for the work it takes to operate and maintain our school."
Lindsey was presented with a special plaque commemorating his service by superintendent Johnny Fowler.
"Michael did a good job as part of the board," Fowler said. "We're going to miss him."
The school received a lot located directly east of the high school campus through a donation by First National Bank. The lot, located near the community garden built by the agricultural department, may be used for a green house project in the future, depending upon grant requests currently under review.
"We thank First National Bank for this donation," Fowler said. "This could be a big help in future projects."
Due to an error in the original schedule, the board approved an amendment to change spring break to March 24-28. The previous scheduling erroneously slated the break for March 17-28. In addition, classes will be dismissed on April 4.
In other business, the board:
* Approved the minutes from the August meeting.
* Approved the August financial report.
* Approved the district, special education and federal budgets for 2014.
* Approved the hiring of Katelyn Vangilder as a preschool aide.
