Peewee Cougars Host Double Header
The Peewee Cougars welcomed a challenge Saturday, hosting the talented Earle Peewee Bulldog program.
The final of three games on the day featured a rematch of the 2012 Northeast Arkansas Youth Football League State Championship squads in the form of the sixth grade Cougars and Bulldogs. A year made a huge difference for the visitors, who powered to a 34-8 win over the Peewee Cougars on the day. .
A tough third quarter spelled the difference in the contest, as Rector saw an 8-0 Earle lead grow to a four touchdown advantage, 28-0, heading into the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Parker Bucy scored the lone touchdown for the Rector sixth graders, carrying the ball in from two yards out with 1:32 remaining in the contest. Bucy's score was the first touchdown given up by Earle's sixth graders this season. Bucy and Adam Romine connected on a pass in the end zone for the successful conversion.
Earle scored on a 70-yard run in the final seconds to set the final in place.
Defensive pressure hurt the Cougars' passing attack on the day, but Rector managed to move the ball with some success thanks to the running efforts of Max Ford and Parker Bucy.
Trace Sanders recovered a fumble and Gage Parrish had two sacks for the Cougar defense.
The fourth grade Cougars fell 14-0 in their meeting with Earle. Jerren Bucy had two 15-plus yard carries for Rector.
Rector fell in fifth grade action, 28-0.
Joseph Baker had two big carries for the young Rector peewees on the day.
Samual Shipley and Christopher Hufty each had a sack on defense. Hufty and Devin Brown recovered a fumble each for Rector's fifth grade squad.
The Peewee Cougars will be in action at Gosnell this Saturday. The boys will play at Rector Sept. 28, as they are set to host Hoxie.
