William Marshall Wheeler
William Marshall Wheeler, 76, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Friday October 11, 2013, at his home.
He was born on May 31, 1937, in Piggott, Ark., and was the son of the late Andrew Edward and Margaret Virginia (Wilford) Wheeler.
He was united in marriage to Barbara June Lang on Jan. 23, 1959. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2010.
Marshall was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Piggott, Ark., having received an award for being the longest member of the church. He retired 16 years ago from the Arkansas Bank in Piggott, Ark., where he had spent many years as manager. He was the Piggott Fire Chief and was a member of the Missouri Bootheel Antique Car Club. Marshall served as Scout Leader earning the highest Scout Master award - Silver Beaver and retired from the National Guard after serving in the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Tracy Cole and husband Joe of Piggott, Ark. and Amy Rucker and husband James of Little Rock, Ark.; granddaughter, Lindsay Rucker of Little Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Andrew Edward Wheeler, Jr. and wife Jeanine of Rockledge, Fla., and Thomas Lowell Wheeler of Mountain Home, Ark.; a sister, Linda Elizabeth Massie of Pittsburg, Penn.; three sisters-in-law, Maxine Phillips, Geraldene Evans and husband Jack, and Arlene Poole all of Piggott, Ark. and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in the First United Methodist Church in Piggott, Ark., with Rev. Andy Newbill officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Carlos Crittenden, Terry Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Gary Phillips, David Gregory and Don Featherston. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held Sunday evening at the funeral home.
