James R. Thomas
James R. Thomas, 69, passed away on October 22, 2013 in Leesburg, Fla. He was born on February 28, 1944, in Detroit, Mich., to his parents Burnice and Hortense Thomas. James was raised in Qulin, Mo. and moved to St. Louis, Mo. in his early twenties. He retained his Qulin childhood friendships throughout his life.
He faithfully served as a deacon in the Bible Baptist Church in Maplewood, Mo. and was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Festus, Mo. A lifelong Cardinals fan, he enjoyed traveling and took pleasure in singing karaoke with friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Shirley (Keirsey) Thomas; two daughters: Lisa (Jim) Salmo of Carbondale, Ill. and Debbie (Doug) Bert of St Louis, Mo.; three brothers: Jack Thomas of Palatka, Fla., William Earl Thomas of O'Fallon, Mo. and Danny Ray Thomas of Palmyra, Tenn. and the late J.B. Thomas; three sisters: Shirley Whalen of Elsinore, Mo., JoAnn Hall of Ballwin, Mo. and Bettina Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariz. He was a proud grandfather to David Salmo, Maddie Bert and Jack Bert.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the White Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. Family and friends will gather at the Lions Club in Qulin immediately following the memorial service.
