Tribe Falls to Talented Mustangs
The Mohawks had a difficult chore ahead of them going into Friday night's contest with conference leader Hoxie at Parker Field. The night was a tough one for the banged up Mohawks, who fell to the visiting Mustangs, 47-7.
Hoxie led 27-0 in the first frame and went up 40-0 at one point in the second quarter.
Piggott scored its only touchdown of the night with 12 left in the first half when Landon Williams ran a one yard score up the gut. Eli Smith connected on the PAT, making his 13th kick in 14 attempts for the season.
Hoxie scored once more in the third quarter to set the final in place.
The Mohawks were unable to get much going in terms of offense, totaling just 91 yards in the contest. Hoxie netted 412 yards of offense in the win.
Nick Haywood led the Tribe with 29 yards on eight carries. Nick McKinnie added 17 yards on four carries. Williams had a touchdown and eight yards on five carries.
Logan Dixon completed three of 10 passes for 34 yards for Piggott.
Hoxie's Cole Sears completed seven of eight passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
Gunner Cook gained 127 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Sears rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on four carries.
The Mohawks fell to 1-7-1 overall with the loss and are 1-5 in 3A-3 conference play.
The cross-county rivalry between Piggott and Corning will be on display Thursday night as the Mohawks will host the Bobcats at 7 p.m. in the final contest of the season. The Rice Bowl trophy will be presented to the winner, honoring both the victorious school and the Clay County Relay For Life.
Thursday will also serve as Senior Night. Senior members of the football team and band will be recognized prior to the start of the contest is a special ceremony.
