Loyd "Melvin" Mills

Loyd (Melvin) Mills, 70, of Rector went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.

Melvin was born November 16, 1942, at Grape Vine, Ark., east of Rector. He was a deacon at Rector First Baptist Church, a gifted Tool and Die Maker, a member of the Rector Jaycees, and served as a Boy Scout leader for 10 years. He loved to read Louis L'Amour and Isaac Asimov, listen to music, and drink Pepsi and eat Snickers candy bars.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda (Speer) Mills of Rector; daughter, Holly Phillips and husband Scott of Hope; daughter, Angela Mills of St. Louis; son, Richard Mills and wife Kary of Rogers; grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie Phillips of Hope; brothers, Leroy Mills of Rector, Kenneth (Butch) Mills of Piggott and Ricky Mills of Paragould and sisters, Debra Kay Conway and Diann Walker of Rector.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Mills and father, Alvin Mills; brothers, James and Doyle Mills and sister, Glenda Faye Lovely.

Visitation was held Friday, November 8 with funeral services following Saturday, November 9 at the Rector First Baptist Church. Melvin was lovingly laid to rest at Woodland Heights cemetery immediately following the memorial service. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Rector or to the Rector Community Center.
