Concert Doubleheader Draws Good Crowds
Despite the recent cold snap, the entertainment was hot this past weekend at Piggott High School, as the Chamber of Commerce hosted two nights of musical entertainment. Friday night the popular Rhodes Show was featured on the stage of the middle gym, and Saturday night the Ultimate Oldies wrapped up the two-night fundraiser concert series.
The shows, sponsored by Helena Chemical, offered a good variety for both young and old alike--and raised much needed funds for the local chamber. The show also marked the return of Piggott native Craig Morris, who appeared both nights along with his wife Donna (Rhodes) Morris and kids Savannah and Sam.
Friday night a good crowd was on hand for the performance of the Rhodes Show, a family entertainment staple in the region for decades. Joining Craig and his family were Donna's sister, Sandra, along with Brenda "Bear" Barnett. The show also featured special guest Gordon Rhodes, brother of the two ladies and another member of the talented family of performers.
The following night an even larger crowd was on hand as a regional all star cast presented the Ultimate Oldies. The show, which has been staged at various venues in the area to rave reviews, proved to be a crowd favorite with an enjoyable mix of old time rock and roll, rhythm and blues and soul standards.
Thanks to the sponsorship of Helena Chemical, and their corporate partners, all proceeds from the box office benefited the local Chamber of Commerce and its projects. Those providing assistance in underwriting the effort included Monsanto, Pioneer, Progeny, Bayer, Syngenta and BASF.
The local appearance also afforded Craig Morris an opportunity to reminisce of his times in Piggott, and share stories with those on hand.
"We'd like to thank everyone who made the show possible, especially Helena Chemical for all their support," noted chamber secretary Jan Glover. "Also, a big thank you goes out to all the performers and the volunteers who helped with the show."
