The Piggott Lady Mohawks are on a roll, with the senior girls riding a three game winning streak. Tuesday night the Tribe posted their second overtime win in a row, advancing 56-50 over the Lady Warriors of Westside in the Pre-Holiday Tournament at Bay. Meanwhile, the junior girls lost their first round game to Brookland.

In addition to Tuesday night's victory over Westside, the Piggott Lady Mohawks held on for a conference overtime win over the Lady Seminole of Osceola Monday night at PHS. Last Tuesday they closed out the month of November on a high note, posting a six point non-conference road win at Armorel. The junior girls also won both their games in the past week, and both squads will be in action this week in the Pre-Holiday Tournament at Bay.

Seniors at Armorel

The Lady Mohawks got a 14 point night from junior guard Bailey Pollard last Tuesday, as they traveled to Armorel and beat the Lady Tigers 41-35. The Tribe led throughout the game, jumping out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter. The Mohawks then withstood a second quarter push which saw their hosts pull to within 4 by the halftime intermission, as the two teams went into the locker room with Piggott on top 21-18.

But, the Mohawks extended the lead to 5 by the end of the third, as they were up 30-25, and then held on down the stretch to post the 6 point win.

Also scoring for the Mohawks were Bre Chandler and Devyn Staples with 6 points each, while Jessie Scheffler finished with 5 and Kacey Crossfield had 4 points in the win.

Junior at Armorel

The junior Lady Mohawks easily beat Armorel by a final of 33-19 last Tuesday. The two teams played fairly even in the first, with the Mohawks leading 5-4 after one. But, the Mohawks widened the gap in the second, and took a 12-9 lead into the locker room at the half. In the third quarter the Piggott squad flexed their muscle and pushed to a 22-13, and down the stretch they outscored Armorel 11-6 as they pulled away for the 14 point win.

The squad was led by Colby Crossfield with 10 points, while Grayson Murray and Reagan Ralph had 8 points each in the win. Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Whitteny Waggoner with 5.

Seniors vs Osceola

Senior Jessie Scheffler got a put-back basket with 2.6 second to play in overtime Monday night, as the Lady Mohawks edged Osceola 45-43 in conference play at PHS. The rebound and shot came off a miss by sophomore Devyn Staples, who led the Tribe in scoring on the night.

The two teams played fairly even in the first quarter, as the Mohawks trailed 15-13 after one. But, the Tribe went on a 14-2 run in the second and led 27-17 at intermission. In the third quarter the visiting Seminole also went on a run of their own, outscoring the Mohawks 13-5 in the frame as they pulled to within 2 points going into the fourth quarter.

But, the Tribe was unable to put the Osceola team away in the fourth as they battled back to tie the game at 41-41 at the end of regulation.

During the overtime period both teams had their chances, but were unable to gain an advantage. With time running down in the OT, the Tribe pushed the ball down the floor with Staples firing up a shot. The rebound came down to Scheffler, and she nailed the short jump shot for the win.

Staples finished with 20 points to lead all scorers, while Scheffler was also in double figures with 10 and Pollard finished with 6. Pacing the offensive attack for Osceola was Dejah Green with 15.

Juniors vs Osceola

The junior Lady Mohawks totally dominated the Osceola junior squad Monday night, as they posted a 47-8 conference win over the Seminole at PHS.

The young junior squad jumped on their visitors early, and led 11-3 by the end of the first quarter. They went on to outscore the Osceola girls 11-2 in the second, 11-1 in the third and 8-1 in the fourth as they cruised to the 39 point win.

Grayson Murray paced the attack with 12 points, and added 11 rebounds, while Reagan Ralph had 8, Colby Crossfield finished with 7 and Emilee Seegraves had 6. Three other Mohawks had 4 points on the game, including Madison Poole, Emily Trosper and Brielle Burkman while Hannah Powell finished with 2.

With their win over Westside, the Lady Mohawks advanced to take on Harrisburg and fell by a wide margin, moving into the consolation bracket. But, due to the threat of bad weather the consolations will likely not be played, meaning both squads should be done, as the junior girls have wrapped-up their appearance falling to the Lady Bearcats by 19.

Next Monday, Dec. 9 the Tribe is scheduled to visit Hoxie and the following day, Tuesday, Dec. 10 they'll host Armorel at PHS.
