Edwin Harold Blankenship, 85, of Fort Smith, Ark., passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. He was born April 8, 1928, in Monette, Ark., to the late Lucien and Mary Louise (Willoughby) Blankenship. Edwin worked many years at Hurt Grocery then retired from Forrest City Grocery Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paragould and served in the United States Air Force. He calf roped in rodeos, played golf, loved fishing, duck hunting, and most of all, his grandkids.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Maurine (Lincoln) Blankenship; an infant son, Eddie Ray Blankenship; a daughter, Vanita Lynn Long; a brother, James L. Blankenship and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Blankenship.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo (Jowers) Blankenship; a son, Joe Long of Norman, Okla.; one step-son, Sean (Erica) Baker of Fort Smith; two daughters, Cathy Denise (Keith) Manning of Rector and Edwina Louise (Frank) Bradshaw of Quitman; a step-daughter, Tresa Eaton Reed of Bartlett, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Joey Walton Long, Josh Andrew Long, Mathew Blake Bradshaw, Mary Beth Bradshaw, Jay Edwin Bradshaw, Lindsey Danielle Manning, Seth Baker, Eli Baker, Trynn Baker and Jessie Baker; five great-grandchildren, Madeline Long, Caleb Manning, Mallory Long, Marshall Bradshaw, Mason Bradshaw, and Kaia Bradshaw and a brother, Roger (Connie) Blankenship.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington Avenue in Jonesboro.

Chapel services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home with Bro. Pat Fulmer officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery.

Joey Long, Josh Long, Mary Beth Bradshaw, Jay Bradshaw, Lindsey Manning and Blake Bradshaw will serve as active pallbearers.

Randall Blankenship, Steve Gambill, Joe Long, Frank Bradshaw, Keith Manning and Chris Gambill will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests lasting memorials be made to the Rector High School Helping Hands, P.O. Box 8, Rector Ark., 72461.
