Cougars Pound Bobcats, Fall to BIC
The Cougars cruised to a big victory over Walnut Ridge Friday night in Rector, defeating the visiting Bobcats, 52-31.
"I felt like we did a good job of controlling the game, basically from the beginning," RHS coach Matt Mills said of the win. We were able to get some good looks at the basket on offense, and on defense, I thought we did a good job of staying on their shooters and bothering their shots."
The Cougars began the contest with an 8-0 run behind an Alec Scott layup and a pair of three-pointers by Adam Dinkins. The two seniors remained consistent throughout the frame, leading Rector to an 18-5 advantage going into the second stanza.
Seniors Dinkins, 21 points, and Scott, 17 points, were consistent throughout the evening.
"Dinkins and Alec both played really well for us tonight," Mills said after the game. "They both did a good job of taking what was there without forcing anything."
Rector led 25-17 at intermission and 40-26 after the third quarter in a contest which was never really in much doubt.
"We were able to maintain a good lead throughout the game," Mills said. "If they (Walnut Ridge) went on a run and looked like they were about to threaten, we had a response when we needed it."

The Cougars returned to conference play this past Tuesday night, falling to Buffalo Island Central, 34-31, in Rector.
"We couldn't throw it in the ocean," Mills said of his team's shooting performance coming back from the holiday break. "That was one of our worst games, and I hope we got it out of our system."
Rector trailed 14-9 after the first frame, but moved ahead 19-18 at intermission. BIC led 32-26 going into the final stanza.
Weber had a solid night for the Cougars, netting 15 points with an inside-outside attack, scoring in the post and stepping outside for a three-pointer. Also scoring for Rector on the night were Hager 8, Dinkins 5 and Scott 3.
