Monday night the teams traveled to Rivercrest, and fell to the talented Colts. But, the following night they rebounded with an overtime home win over their cross-county rivals from Corning.

Hoxie

The Mohawks hosted the Hoxie Mustangs last week, winning the seventh grade and junior high games while losing the senior contest.

In the varsity game it was a big fourth quarter by the Mustangs which made the difference, as the two teams played even through the first three frames. Scoring by quarters had the visitors up 12-10 after one, and the two teams played even at 15-15 in the second to make it a 27-25 Hoxie lead at the half.

The Tribe came out hot in the third, and won the frame 11-9 to draw even. But, the Mustangs rode an 18-9 fourth quarter to the 54-45 win.

Nicholas Harris led the Tribe with 14, while Austin Murray and Will Jett had 12 each and Trevor Grubb finished with 7 points. Tristen Sisco paced the visitors with 15.

The junior high contest was a lopsided win by the Mohawks, as they pounded the young Mustangs 38-12. Pacing the attack was Peyton Mann with 9, while Bret Fuller finished with 7 and Logan Ralph had 4 points in the victory.

The seventh grade game also went to the Mohawks, 37-19, with Trey Gossett and Elijah Bellers each scoring 11 points for the Tribe.

Earle

The Mohawks hosted Earle for their annual homecoming contest Friday, Jan. 10 at PHS and posted an exciting 75-71 conference win in the varsity game. Austin Murray and Will Jett led the offensive attack with 29 and 27 points respectively, while Trevor Grubb had a big game on both ends of the floor--including a key blocked shot late to preserve the win. Nicholas Harris also had a standout game, and hit a pivotal free throw late to put the contest out of reach.

Grubb had 9 points on the game, and 7 rebounds, while Harris contributed 10 points and had 6 rebounds to his credit in the win. As a team the Tribe converted on 22 of 37 free throw attempts.

Scoring by quarters had the Mohawks up 21-19 after the first quarter, and the two teams both scored 17 in the second giving the visitors a 38-26 lead at the half. The Bulldogs outscored the Mohawks 24-18 in the third, but the Tribe powered to a 19-11 advantage in the fourth to secure the win.

In the early contests the Earle seventh grade squad took their game 40-10, while the junior Bulldogs notched a 66-29 over the Piggott junior team in their contest. Leading the way for the Mohawks was Fuller with 9, while Josh Lyman and Bellers finished with 5 points each.

Rivercrest

Monday night all three Mohawk teams visited Rivercrest, and were swept by their hosts. In the senior high match up the Tribe got off to a slow start and trailed 15-6 by the end of the first quarter. The Colts went on to outscore the Mohawks 23-12 in the second, but the Mohawks came out of the locker room to begin the second half and won the frame 22-16. Down the stretch the home team held off the Tribe, outscoring the Piggott squad 25-18 in the fourth to post the win.

The junior high contest also went to the Colts, as they beat the Mohawks 40-21 despite 13 points from Bret Fuller. The seventh grade contest also went to the Rivercrest squad, as they took the first game of the evening 27-16.

All three teams were in action Tuesday evening, as the Mohawks hosted the Corning Bobcats in conference play at PHS. The visitors took the seventh grade contest, but the Tribe swept the junior and senior games--with the varsity contest going to overtime. The Tribe got the win on a last second Austin Murray lay-up, set up by a Brayden Brewer three-pointer. The final score was 51-49.

They're scheduled to visit the Manila Lions for a conference set this Friday, Jan. 17 and will host the Colts of Rivercrest Monday, Jan. 20 at PHS. The following day, Tuesday, Jan. 21 they're scheduled to host Osceola. Next Friday, Jan. 24 the senior boys are scheduled to take part in a twin with the Lady Mohawks against Caruthersville.
