Accident victim Penny Poole

The Greene County Sheriff's Department, in an effort with the Arkansas State Police, has updated its investigation into the Dec. 30, 2013, two vehicle accident which resulted in the death of Penny Poole of Piggott and injuries to two others, including Poole's daughter, Casey.

With the assistance of the ASP, Greene County investigators released a revised narrative of the accident in which Poole was found to not be at fault for the accident. The updated narrative states Poole's SUV, which was travelling north on Highway 49 near Greene County Road 522 north of Halliday, was struck by the other vehicle involved in the accident, a 2006 Dodge SRX driven by a 17-year-old female from Paragould. The narrative noted the Dodge crossed the center line, striking the vehicle driven by Poole.

Initial reports from authorities were compiled after the scene of the accident had been altered in order to make conditions safer for the arrival of arrival of rescue personnel, including two emergency medical transport helicopters. Additional evidence was uncovered after debris and safety measures were cleared from the roadway, further indicating Poole was not at fault for the accident.

The Times-Democrat published an article in the Jan. 8, 2014 edition of the newspaper featuring the original, incorrect information. Once the updated narrative was completed, the authorities involved and the Times-Democrat wished to present the correct findings for the public record.
