Former Mohawk multi-sport standout Tanner Murray has earned a spot on this spring's roster for the ASU Red Wolf baseball squad. Murray, a junior at Arkansas State, was invited to walk on during fall practice and worked himself into a roster position as a catcher. He's been assigned #37.

Murray, son of Kevin and Johnna Murray of Piggott, was a four-year letterman for the baseball Mohawks. He was a member of two Regional Championship teams and was an All-State selection two seasons. He was also recognized with post-season accolades as a member of the PHS football and basketball teams.

The prospects for the young athlete appeared to be very limited just months after his graduation from PHS in 2012, after he was involved in a traffic accident at Rector. But, despite injuries which required surgery to relieve pressure on his brain, Murray was able to make a full recovery--although it did delay his athletic endeavors for a time.

Listed at 6-4 and 200 pounds, Murray is one of only a handful of Red Wolf players from the area. He's joined by Logan Dollins and Adam Grantham of Kennett, Zach George of Greene County Tech, Eric Wilcoxson of Walnut Ridge, Kaleb Brown, Colton Kibler and Dustin Jones of Valley View and J.D. Rainwater of Jonesboro High School.

He's majoring in Exercise Science.

Murray, along with the rest of the A-State baseball squad, resumed full team workouts last Friday at Tomlinson Stadium. They'll open the season with a three-game home set Feb. 14 to 16 against Miami of Ohio. The Red Wolves will then clash with Arkansas-Monticello for a mid-week matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and will follow that up with a four-game set with Illinois Feb. 21 to 23, which includes a double-header on Saturday, Feb. 22. The home stand will conclude with a mid-week series against SEMO beginning Feb. 25 at Tomlinson Stadium.

Fans can purchase season tickets for all 31 home games with prices starting at $50 for general admission seating. Reserved chair seating is $75 while field level chair seating is $125. Special 4-pack options are available as well. For more information contact the A-State Ticket Office at 1.800.ASU.Fans or visit tickets.astate.edu.
