Charlene Olivia Pollard
Charlene Olivia Pollard, 81, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in the Piggott Community Hospital.
She was born on November 3, 1932, in Wisk, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Gilbert Gilmore and Ava Bernice (Fleming) Walter.
She was united in marriage to Dallas Pollard on Aug. 25, 1950, and to this union three children were born.
Charlene was a longtime member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Piggott, Ark. She worked at Brown Shoe Company in Piggott, until its closure.
She loved gardening and her family has enjoyed her canning, sewing and cooking over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Charles Walter, Roy Gene Walter, Calvin G. Walter and Phillip Walter and her sister, Marie Lylte.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Dallas Pollard; children, Julia Winberry and husband Ed of Piggott, Ark., Dennis Pollard and wife Phyllis of Iola, Tex. and Debbie Harrell and husband David of Piggott, Ark.; five grandchildren, Michael Harrell and wife Amber, Mark Winberry and wife Tenneschia, Melissa Williams and husband Sam, Erica Key and husband Terry Don and Amanda Boring and husband Chris along with thirteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church near Piggott, Ark., with Mike Book, Robert Gunnels, and Dennis Pollard officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard, Ark. Pallbearers were Terry Don Key II, Chris Boring, Matthew Vancil, Terry Pollard, Shawn Hearn and Vance Turner. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark,, was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held Friday evening at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home.
