Reed Weber, shown here in earlier action from the season, finished with 36 points on the road at EPC and 21 at Cross County last week.

The Cougars had a tough time Friday night at Lepanto, falling to the hosting East Poinsett County Warriors, 63-46.

The Cougars were able to claim a 16-12 first quarter advantage, but EPC took control from there. The Warriors took a 35-25 advantage at intermission and 53-35 heading into the fourth.

Rector senior Reed Weber had a stellar outing, netting 36 points for the Cougars. Despite the outstanding performance, the Cougars were unable to overcome a surging EPC team.

"Reed did a good job for us, but that was about it in that one," Rector coach Matt Mills said. "Outside of that, we couldn't get much of anything else to go our way."

Also scoring for Rector were Adam Dinkins 3, Alec Scott 2, Chito Martinez 2, Wes McCluskey 2 and Skyler Shockley 1.

EPC had the hot hand shooting, with Clay Malone leading the Warriors with a strong performance from beyond the arc, hitting four of his team's 11 triples on the night. Malone finished with 16 points, leading four Warriors in double figures.

Rector fell to 16-11 overall and 7-7 in 2A-3 with the loss.

The Junior Cougars dropped a tough one to EPC in their meeting, 54-48.

Easton Tracy had a dynamite night for Rector, netting 24 points in the contest. Also scoring for the Junior Cougars were Dustin Carter 9, Case Watson 9, Sam Simmons 2, Matt Hynds 2 and Hunter McNeely 2.

The Cougars rolled to a 61-37 win over Cross County Jan. 28 at Cherry Valley.

Rector jumped out to a 15-0 first quarter advantage and cruised to the win, leading 36-4 at intermission and 54-21 going into the fourth quarter.

Weber set the pace with 21 points for the Cougars. Dinkins, 13 points, and Scott, 10, also reached double figures in scoring. Other Rector scorers included: Garrett Buck 4, Lawson Ford 4, Martinez 3, Nick Hardin 2, Huston Highfill 2 and Chase Jackson 2.
