The Piggott Lady Mohawks traveled to Earle Monday evening to make-up a conference set with the Lady Bulldogs which had been postponed last week due to the weather. The junior girls fell by a lopsided margin in their contest, while the senior girls dropped a 13 point loss. Both teams also dropped games to Manila Tuesday, Feb. 11 in another set which had to be postponed due to the winter storms.

Senior Girls

The Lady Mohawks got a big game from Sydney Tarno Monday night, as she accounted for 20 of their points in a 63-50 loss at Earle.

Scoring by quarters had the Lady Bulldogs up 14-10 by the end of the first quarter, and the hosts extended the lead with a 10-6 advantage in the second as they took a 24-16 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Tribe came out in the third quarter and hung with the Earle squad, as both teams scored 11 points in the period. But, the fourth frame went to the Bulldogs by 5 points, as they outscored the Mohawks 28-23 in the quarter to set the final score.

Along with Tarno's 20, Devyn Staples finished with 8, Kacey Crossfield had 5, McKenzie Hopkins and Shelby Chavez finished with 4 each, Jessie Scheffler returned from an ankle injury scoring 3 and Bre Chandler and Bailey Pollard had 2 each.

As a team the Lady Mohawks converted on 13 of 24 trips to the charity stripe on the game.

Meanwhile, Lacordia Williams had 18 for the Lady Bulldogs, as they had three players score in double figures in the win.

Tuesday night was set aside as senior night for the Lady Mohawks with members of the class of 2014 to be honored before the senior contests. This year there are four seniors on the Mohawk roster--Tarno, Scheffler, Chandler and Crossfield.

The Tribe also dropped the senior night contest to Manila at PHS, stats and further details may be found in the Feb. 19 print and online editions of the CCTD.

Meanwhile, the Lady Mohawks will close out the regular season on the road Thursday night in a twin set at Rector with the boy's varsity squad. They're slated to begin district tournament play at Harrisburg and will likely face the Hoxie Lady Mustangs in the first round.

Junior Girls

The junior Lady Mohawks continued to have trouble scoring points in Monday night's game, dropping a 51-14 decision. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and enjoyed a 21-3 advantage after one, but the two squads played even in the second with the Piggott girls taking the frame 5-4. Earle came out of the locker room and went on a 20-2 run in the third, and then outscored the Lady Mohawks 6-4 in the fourth to set the final.

Colby Crossfield and Reagan Ralph had 5 points each for the Tribe in the loss, while Emily Massey and Emilee Seegraves had 2 points each. Leading the way for the junior Bulldogs was Roshala Scott with 16.

Wednesday evening the junior girls were eliminated from the district tournament at Hoxie by Corning by a score of 39-17. Complete details and stats may be found in the Feb. 19 edition of the CCTD.
