The Piggott Mohawks made the trip to Earle Monday, Feb. 10 for a make-up set with the girl's teams and dropped both conference games. The junior boys fell by a wide margin, while the senior boys suffered a 21 point set-back after beating the Bulldogs at PHS for homecoming. Both teams also fell to the Manila Lions Tuesday, Feb. 11 at PHS in the junior team's regular season finale' and the varsity squad's senior night contest.

The Mohawks came off the weather induced break Monday night on the road at Earle, and fell 76-55 to split on the season with the Bulldogs.

Will Jett came out hot in the first quarter of play and nailed four 3-point baskets, but was shut out in the second and held to just 6 points in the second half. Meanwhile, Austin Murray picked up the slack in the third and fourth, scoring 14 of his 16 points after intermission.

Scoring by quarters had the Bulldogs up 22-17 after one, and they extended the lead with a 14-6 second quarter to enjoy a 36-23 lead at the break. The hosts extended the lead in the third by outscoring the Tribe 21-16 in the frame, and then punctuated the victory with a 19-16 fourth quarter to set the final score.

Jett and Murray were the only two Mohawks in double figures on the night, while Nicholas Harris finished with 8, Trevor Grubb and Nick McKinnie had 4 each, Logan Dixon finished with 3 and Brayden Brewer had 2 points in the loss. As a team the Tribe made 22 trips to the free throw line, converting on 14 of those attempts.

For the host Bulldogs, Garrett and Scott had 18 each and they were 11 of 22 from the charity stripe.

Junior Boys

The junior Mohawks continued to have their issues scoring in their game at Earle, dropping a 65-17 decision to the young Bulldogs.

The hosts jumped out to a 23-2 lead by the end of the first, then outscored the Tribe 18-7 in the second, 16-4 in the third and 8-4 in the fourth to set the final score.

Quinton Reeves paced the Tribe with 4 points, Bret Fuller and Trey Gossett had 3 each, Peyton Mann, Josh Lyman and Dalton Morris had 2 apiece and Brandon Gilkinson finished with 1.

Prior to the senior girl's contest with Manila Tuesday night the class of 2014 was recognized, which includes Jett, Murray, Grubb and Jeff Meuir.

The senior high team will then wrap up their regular season with a non-conference twin set with the Lady Mohawks Thursday night at Rector. As for the junior boys they fell to Osceola Wednesday night at Hoxie in the first round of the 3A-3 district tournament. Meanwhile, the senior boys will be moving into district tournament play at Harrisburg in the coming week, with opponent and time yet to be determined.
