Chili Cook-Off Set At Rector

Thursday, February 13, 2014
Ryan Rogers (center) took first in last year's inaugural chili cook-off, with David Cagle (left) and Jeff Douglas rounding out the top three.

The second annual Chili Cook-off and Supper will open at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Rector Community Center. The event, which supports the center, promises to be an ideal cure for any cases of Cabin Fever area residents may have developed during the recent winter weather. The supper includes all-you-can eat chili or potato soup, all condiments, a delicious dessert and drink for $5.

This year's competition will feature a championship trophy, and anticipation is mounting among the participants. Last year's winning "Fat Man Chili" will be defending the title against stiff competition from area fire departments, city employees, Legacy Equipment, Baker Implement and other eager individuals and organizations. Organizers report bragging rights and playful "throw-down" banter has begun in earnest.

All are invited to attend the event and enjoy an evening of delicious food, fellowship and a championship celebration. Judging of the contestants' chili will begin at 5 p.m., so organizers will be able to announce the winner early in the evening.
