Marmaduke held off a stiff challenge from underdog Cedar Ridge to claim yet another Class 2A Regional Championship with a hard earned 51-44 victory over the Lady Timberwolves Saturday night at Pangburn.

Junior forward Alex Richey sparked the Lady Greyhounds by coming off the bench to score a team high 16 points, including 11 in the second quarter, helping Marmaduke regain the lead. The Lady Greyhounds trailed 12-8 late in the first quarter after a pair of three's by Lady Timberwolves Liz Henderson and Christine Mathes.

Marmaduke rallied when Callie Price and Sidnee Bopp came up with consecutive steals and lay ups to knot the score at 12-all at the 1:11 mark. Shannon Butler's offensive stick back gave the T-Wolves a two point edge before Richey drained her first of four opening half treys to give the Lady Hounds a 15-14 lead. Butler answered for Cedar Ridge with an inside bucket to put the Timberwolves up at the first break, 16-15.

Richey continued her long range bombing in the second stanza with three more triples to give Marmaduke the lead. Trailing 22-20 midway through the second period Richey connected from the left wing for three and a 23-22 Lady Hound advantage. Bopp followed with a lay in to push the lead to three, but the Lady T-Wolves fought back, scoring five unanswered points. Chaney Ryan hit a jumper in the lane before Henderson completed a three point play to give Cedar Ridge a 27-25 advantage at the 3:00 mark.

Richey struck once more with another long trey to give the Lady Greyhounds the lead for good, 28-27, with 2:10 remaining in the half. Allison Hampton scored on an offensive put back to push the lead to 30-27. A pair of Henderson free throws sliced the Marmaduke lead to 30-29 with nine seconds to go, but Richey buried her third triple in a row at the four second mark as the Lady Hounds took a 33-29 halftime lead.

Marmaduke gained some breathing room in the third quarter outscoring Cedar Ridge 10-6 to increase their lead to 43-35 entering the final frame. Bopp provided the offensive punch for the Lady 'Hounds, scoring six points during the period.

Despite going without a field goal in the final frame, Marmaduke was able to advance to the free throw line, making 8 of 10 attempts to hold their lead.

The Lady Timberwolves made one last charge in the late stages, pulling within two, 46-44, on a Cheyenne Brooks lay in with 1:28 left. But sisters Madison and Callie Price, along with Richey, combined for five free throws in the last 59 seconds to seal the victory and the championship for the Lady Greyhounds.

"We were able to hit our free throws down the stretch when we needed to, and we took care of the ball," said Marmaduke Coach Rick Smith. "Cedar Ridge played a very good game. They have an excellent team. I thought Alex Richey came up big with some huge threes for us in the first half. She really gave our offense a spark. We are very happy to win the regional again and I am very proud of the girls. They did a great job all week," concluded Smith.

Joining Richey in double digits for Marmaduke were Bopp and Hampton who scored 13 and 11 points respectively. Callie Price netted eight, Shelby Blackburn tallied two, while Madison Price chipped in one. The Lady 'Hounds sank 14-19 free throws and drilled five treys.

Henderson paced the T-Wolves with 18 points while Mathes added 11. Cedar Ridge connected on 14-15 foul shots and hit two three pointers on the night.

The Lady Greyhounds will begin Class 2A State Tournament play Thursday afternoon at Hampton High School. Marmaduke, the number one seed from the North Region, will take on Strong, the number four seed from the South Region. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
