Lady 'Hounds Advance to State Semi-Finals
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds powered their way through the first two rounds of the 2A state basketball tournament at Hampton, beating Strong by a tally of 60-37 in the first round and then pounding St. Joseph of Conway 53-31 Saturday.
They now advance to the semi-final round, and will play at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11 against the winner of Monday's Spring Hill-Magnet Cove contest.
Magnet Cove got by Westside-Johnson County 51-47 while Spring Hill beat down Salem by a final of 82-45.
In the lower half of the bracket the Marked Tree Lady Indians are still in the hunt, as they are slated to play Mountainburg at 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, March 10 in the quarterfinals. The winner of that game will take on the winner of Monday afternoon's contest between Brinkley and Cedar Ridge in the semi's.
In the boy's bracket the BIC Mustangs are still alive as well, and were slated to play Clarendon Monday afternoon with the winner taking on the winner of the Conway St. Joseph-Junction City game at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11. The Junction City squad eliminated EPC while Conway St. Joseph downed Hughes to advance.
The defending state champion Cedar Ridge boys will face the winner of today's contest between Blevins and England on Tuesday for the right to play for a second state title in a row.
