Rector Alumni Game a Crowd Favorite
The annual Rector High School Alumni Game, held Friday at the RHS gym, was a fun, back-and-forth contest by some of the top players of recent memory. The teams, divided into those graduating in even years and those from odd years, pushed back the clock to provide an evening of basketball delight, which saw the odd years' squad, adorned in white jerseys, top the blue jersey wearing even years' team, 68-63.
The white, even years' team consisted of Matt Mills, Stephen Scott, Daniel White, Dillon Shelton and Mitchell Weber.
The blue, odd years' squad featured Lance Mabrey, Derek Wyss, Kris Beck, James Hemphill, Jackie Graham and Billy Scott.
The first quarter saw the white squad emerge with a 12-11 advantage. The blue crew held a two point advantage, 34-32, at intermission.
Trailing 50-49 going into the final frame, the white squad took the lead with a pivotal run midway through the period. Mills and White each hit key layups and three-pointers to bolster their team during the run, which was also assisted by some noticeable non-calls from the high school volunteers serving as referees.
Mills finished with 24 points for the White squad. White notched 20 in the win. Shelton added 16 points. Weber notched eight points to round out the scoring
Mabrey led the Blue crew with 23 points. Beck chipped in 16 points. Also scoring were Wyss 9, Hemphill 8 and Graham 7.
The event was a fun contest, with each player who stepped on the court giving a good effort in support of raising funds for the RHS prom.
