Lady Mohawks Pound Hoxie, Fall to 'Hounds

The Lady Mohawks swept Hoxie in conference softball action on Thursday, March 20 at Independence Park and then hosted Marmaduke's Lady Greyhounds in non-conference action Monday, March 24. The squad is scheduled to be in tournament play this weekend at Rivercrest.


The Piggott Lady Mohawks exploded for nearly 40 runs in seven innings in a double-header sweep of the Lady Mustangs last Thursday afternoon at Independence Park. The Tribe jumped out to an early lead on their visitors, and powered their way to a 16-1 decision in the first game of the conference twin-bill.

In the second game, the Hoxie coach called the game after the second inning after the Lady Mohawk batters chalked up 23 unanswered runs.

With the wins the Lady Mohawks extended their season, and conference record to 4-1.

Monday, March 24 the Lady Mohawks hosted Marmaduke at Independence Park in non-conference play, and dropped the contest by a wide margin. Complete stats and other details were not available as of press time.

The squad is slated to take part in a tournament at Rivercrest this weekend, weather permitting. They'll be back at home on Monday, March 31 as they host the Lady Tigers of Armorel, and are scheduled to visit the Lady Camels of Campbell on Tuesday, April 1. The coming week also includes a home game on Thursday, April 3 as the Lady Bobcats of Corning visit PHS.
